The participants will arrive at Fahrsicherheitszentrum Nürburgring by 8:45 a.m.
Introduction, presentation of the program and short theoretical instruction regarding the main aspects of driving physics.
Practical training begins at 10:00 a.m. and includes the following main elements:
Slalom: This exercise focuses on the participants’ correct seating position and steering technique.
Corners on Smooth Surface: Systematically inducing, controlling and ending the drift is trained at low speed on a low-friction racetrack. Various techniques are developed on smooth sliding surfaces.
Double Bend Drift: The participants learn how to systematically shift the drift while driving a double bend.
The drift should be kept in a controlled throttle lift-off from left to right and vice versa.
Asphalt Circuit: In a further step, the newly acquired skills regarding how to induce, control and end the drift are brought to perfection on a wet asphalt circuit track.
The aim is to keep the instable driving condition throughout the entire circuit.
Drift Challenge: To round off the training, the participants get a chance to demonstrate their skills.
They are asked to keep a constant drift as long as possible on the circuit (max. 5 minutes*).
The winner is crowned “Drift King of the Day” and is awarded a trophy as well as a voucher for a drift taxi ride in our AC Cobra. If several participants were able to keep up the drift for more than 5 minutes, the participant driving the vehicle with the lowest HP wins.
There will be a lunch break of 45 minutes.
The Dorint Bistro at Fahrsicherheitszentrum offers a lunch buffet.
It includes two alternative main courses, various side-dishes, a large salad buffet and a choice of desserts.
The practical training session ends at about 5:15 p.m. There will be a brief final discussion with all participants who will then receive their diploma. This includes a special ceremony during which the winner of the Drift Challenge receives his/her award.
Afterwards, beginning at 6:00 p.m., the participants are escorted to the starting point of the exclusive Nürburgring tour. Here, they get a chance to sneak a look at the most sacred areas of Nürburgring.
Feel the passion and excitement of legendary racing careers and plenty of success stories and anecdotes.
Experience history that gets right under your skin.
(Please note that during major events at Nürburgring, guided tours have to be restricted or might not be possible at all. Thank you for your understanding.)
Participants:
Women and men with at least 5 years of driving experience. Ideally, you have already participated in a (driving safety) training course, so we do not have to start from scratch, for example regarding driving physics. It would also be helpful if topics such as seating position and, above all, steering techniques have already been trained.
Number of Participants: maximum of 10 persons per event
Vehicles: Participant-Owned Vehicles
| • | Rear-wheel drive vehicles, ideally from 120 HP onwards; possible “antidrift mechanisms" – i. e. an electronic stability program – should have an option to be switched off; |
| • | While four-wheel drive vehicles are permitted, we would like to advise you that it can be frustrating trying to drift on asphalt. |
| • | Front-wheel drive vehicles: This does not make any sense and it is not enjoyable, so these vehicles are not allowed. |
| • | On the day of the training, your vehicle’s tank should be at least ¾ full. The trunk and the interior of the vehicle should be empty to avoid objects shifting (and affecting your concentration). The oil level should be just under maximum. |
Insurance:
The training is not aimed at achieving maximum speed, and this is neither a motor sports contest nor a licensing course.
If you have comprehensive plus collision insurance, please check in advance with your insurance broker whether this event is covered by your insurance.
You will take part in the course at your own risk. Before the course starts, we will ask you to sign a Declaration on Liability Exclusion (for information purposes, you will already receive the declaration form when registering for the training course).
What to wear:
Casual sports clothes that suit the occasion. Above all, correct footwear is crucial. To develop the right feeling, shoes with very thin soles are the best choice (feeling and “the right touch” is what counts).
Depending on the season, please remember to bring a (waterproof) jacket because you will spend time outdoors as well.
If you are using a slippery (e. g. wooden) steering wheel, it is, of course, never a bad idea to cover your hands (gloves) to achieve a better grip.
Co-Pilots:
We can understand that you might want to share this special experience with somebody else. Principally, this is possible.
However, your co-pilot must be at least 18 years old.
